The Steyning Triathlon is now in its 9th year and is regularly oversubscribed. New for 2009! Transition and Race HQ will all be positioned at the front of the Leisure Centre. The race was originally organised as a benefit to local triathlete Dave Harmer who was seriously injured in a road accident. Steyning is a small picturesque market town at the foot of the South Downs situated between Brighton & Worthing in West Sussex. The ‘Long Triathlon’ (800 swim, 36km bike, 8km run) starts at 6:30am followed by the ‘Sprint Triathlon’ (400 swim, 20km bike, 5km run) at 7:40am. The race is suitable for all abilities whether you’re an experienced triathlete or a complete novice. The swim will be in a 25m indoor pool, the rolling bike course will be on the A283 and A24 which is regularly used for local & national time trials and the run will be a loop around the historic market town and into the grounds of Wilton House.
This is what some competitors said
about the event:-
“Great fun and the organisation
was very good so well done. Also the stewards were very good at keeping
us going in the right direction with numbers displayed in the right
place etc”
“My husband and I competed in the Long Course Triathlon and we
would like to say a special Thank You to the marshals who stood out
there in the rain. It was horrible and cold for the competitors and
we really take our hats off to the people who volunteer to help us round
the course. See you next year”
