The Steyning Duathlon is now in its sixth year and part of the British Duathlon Ranking Series 2008. Originally organised to support Steynings historic 15 mile walking race, the duathlon has now become the main event for the ‘Festival of Sport’ which also includes a 5km road race and various races for children. The race is located in Steyning town centre which is between Brighton & Worthing in West Sussex, at the foot of the South Downs. The event will take place on Easter Monday 24th March 2008 at 1:15pm. To facilitate the event becoming part of the National Ranking Series the race distances are the same as last year, 7km Run, 36km Bike, 5km Run. Over the last five years the event has attracted most of the UK’s top duathletes. The course is relatively unique in that the run is a 1km lap on a closed road circuit around the historic market town. The rolling bike course will be on the A283 and A24 which are regularly used for local & national time trials. The late start means most of the local cafés and pubs are open which creates a big race atmosphere with local spectators. The entry fee this year is £34 BTF and £38 Non BTF.

This is what some competitors said about the event last year. Courtesy of Tri Talk Forum:-

“Very well organised/marshalled race I thought with a nice atmosphere in the town centre for the 2 runs. It was a brave decision by the organisers to have most of the bike on a dual carriageway at 2pm on a Bank Holiday!”

“I was there - second time I have done this race and I agree it has a great atmosphere.”

”It was a very well organised event which I thoroughly enjoyed. I thought the overall organisation was superb and well done to the organisers for changing things at the last minute.”

“Again, the organisation was faultless.... and I got name checked just about every lap on the run.”

“Last years commentary was great. Only the second time I've had my name mentioned during a race and you seemed to get a lot of people in which I'm sure was appreciated.”

“The 8 run laps are great for pacing, great for spectators which in turn are good for competitors. Definitely had the feel of a big London Marathon type event with lots of spectators cheering you on (esp. impressive considering it's far from a big event). I will return next year.”
