Online entry is open and entries are already starting to flow in! We’ve held our prices for the third successive year with some events having been held longer than that. The season ahead looks great with the first event a week later than normal to guarantee bluebells! The Bluebell 10km & 10 Mile Trail Run is on 27th April 2014. Then we’re into the early season triathlons at Steyning on 4th May 2014, followed by the Arundel Lido Triathlon on 25th May 2014. The 3.8km Ironman Distance River Swim in the Arun will be back to its original format this year from Ford to Littlehampton on Saturday 14th June 2014, but we’ve also got a 1.5km and 3km option during the Waterfront Festival on Sunday 27th July. Our original Triathlon at Worthing is on 6th July 2014 and then it’s August Bank Holiday for the River Adur Swims on Saturday 23rd August to coincide with the Shoreham River Festival with its live music. Finally the Firle Half Marathon, 10km Trail Run & 5km Fun Runs are set for 14th September 2014. There’s still one more unique event being planned which we should be able to announce soon!
Provisional dates for the forthcoming season are out! There are a couple of new additional events being planned which will be announced soon. Online entry is NOT YET open. First up is the Bluebell 10km & 10 Mile Trail Run on 27th April 2014 which sold out this year with 600 competitors. Next is everyone’s warm up event at the Steyning Triathlon on 4th May 2014, followed later in the month by the Arundel Lido Triathlon on 25th May 2014. The 3.8km & 8km River Arun Swims have been put back to their traditional slot on the 2nd week of June; 14th June 2014 is the date for these. The Man v Woman classic Triathlon at Worthing is on 6th July 2014 and we are likely to have another river swim also in July, in addition to the popular River Adur Swim on the 10th August 2014 (provisional date). Finally the Firle Half Marathon, 10km Trail Run & 5km Fun Run, which saw a huge increase in competitor numbers this year, is set for 14th September 2014. Congratulations to Charlton Rudwick from Arena 80 and Sue Fry from Hailsham Harriers who won the Half Marathon in 1.26.00 and 1.36.23 respectively. The 10km Trail Run was won by Frederick Tasker from North Devon RRC in 39:19 and the ladies were led home by Amanda Scott from Ripe in 52:03. Supervet Andrew Sharp from Brighton won the 5km Fun Run in 23:28 and Lucinda Wright from Hailsham Harriers took the honours in 25:05 for 2nd overall. A special mention should be made for Junior Ziggy Henry who finished 3rd overall just pipping his dad to the line in 26:02. Entries on the day are available for all races at Firle this Sunday. Despite the gloomy forecast, the weather on Sunday morning looks pretty good with sun and cloud – it gets a bit windy after lunch! The Half Marathon starts at 09:30hrs, 10km Trail Run at 10:00hrs & 5km Fun Run at 10:10hrs. Countryside Catering will be providing their usual great food, there’s a kids play area next to the finish and The Ram Inn is only 200yds away for lunch!
